Getting an office can be one of the most expensive items in the business budget. But you’re not actually doomed to pay egregious prices for an office. Many believe that you just have to bite the bullet and pay gobsmacking sums of money. But there actually a lot of ways in which you can save money in this area. Be sure to take advantage of this sort of advice!
Okay, you should have an office of some kind. But that doesn’t mean you have to rent an entire office with room for several employees. This is the age of advanced communication technologies, after all! We have the cloud, social, collaboration software, instant messaging. Having everyone work from home is now more feasible than ever.

Of course, some business owners may feel that they need an entire office. But you have to think twice about the location. Sure, getting an office in the city makes your business look really professional and prestigious. But the prices on those things can be astronomical. You need to be careful when considering a location. You could save so much money by moving just a few miles away. And if you really want the prestige of a “sexy” business address, you could always use a mail forwarding service.
A lot of people are absolutely convinced that renting is for chumps. After all, that money you’re putting into the rent isn’t actually going anywhere except in the landlord’s pocket. If you get a mortgage and buy the place like that, then at least the money you pay is actually going towards ownership! But do you know what I’ve noticed about the people who say this? They’re often the ones who have the money to buy places outright. Most of us don’t. Besides, renting can actually be a lot more sensible than buying.

You could say that this is taking advantage of someone else’s misfortune. And maybe you’d be right. But if you don’t do it, someone else will! Basically, when a company is forced to downsize, they may move out of an office before their lease is completed. Acquiring these offices can often be a lot less expensive! You’re basically offering to step in and take over the lease. It’s difficult to find opportunities to do this, however. A real estate agent may be able to help you.

This isn’t something a lot of businesses consider. But if you think about it, it can make a lot of sense. Let’s say you have two fairly small businesses. They find an office that has more room than either of them need. If they split the price, they could both fit quite comfortably in there without treading in each other’s toes. And a bunch of money will be saved. You could install some partitions if you’re worried about privacy. Not all landlords will allow for this, however. If you’ve found a potential “roommate”, be sure to discuss this idea with landlords you come across.
