Best opportunities for self education you can find
Comprehensive knowledge and intellect are not measured by how many diplomas and education certificates you’ve got. It’s about how much information and thoroughly analyzed facts you can keep in your memory. Let’s admit it: it’s much easier to get your long-awaited higher education certificate than really getting the precious knowledge you need. All that paper writing teaches you something, but is it enough? This is not to say that you can’t rely on the knowledge they give you at your college or university, but you can always benefit from some extra education. And you can manage to get this extra education by yourself. So what options for self education are out there for you? We’ll tell you about five most popular options, and you decide which one suits you better.
While some people may say that the only place where you can get some real knowledge is a library, we have to remember that we live in the 21st century. Internet is not just for entertainment; there is a plenty of opportunities to get online education. From educational resources like Coursera and Futurelearn where you can find courses held by professional educators from all over the world to online encyclopedias like https://www.wikipedia.org , there’s a massive ocean of knowledge just waiting for you to grab it. Online courses will allow you to receive a certificate that will confirm you’ve completed this course or another – after you pass a test (yes, you’ll have to practice writing tests here too). You’ll definitely find something useful there. And Wikipedia is great for refreshing your memory on a subject or getting familiar with something. Just keep it in mind that using it for research paper writing might not be a good idea.
Like it’s been said earlier, you don’t need to go to an actual library to get the source material you need. Most of books can be found online; isn’t it good to self educate yourself without even leaving your home? In case you are not sure about which books you need to get the knowledge you want, ask for some advice. Quite likely, your college or university educators will be happy to give you a list. Or maybe just ask your fellow self education enthusiasts (there are many forums and discussion boards online where you can find them).
If you haven’t looked into this opportunity already, you’d be surprised how many possibilities there are to attend public lectures. You can choose the course of lectures to your liking: any subject, any length, any price (unless they are free of charge). At least one great thing about public lectures is it’s where you can find a lot of like-minded people. Who knows? Maybe acquaintances you make there will be very useful for you in the future. Besides, it’s where you can receive a good reading or writing advice, or just any advice related to self education you can really benefit from.
There are lots of workshops around on about any topic you can think of, from time management to healthy dieting to professional writing, art of speech with interesting speech topics. Just Google them, choose the place and time (and price) that suits you and go for it. Just be careful and do some research before joining a workshop. Some of them may be not worth your time, so make sure you’ll get quality knowledge for your money.
This may be the best modern option for those of you who are more of an introvert type (or just for those who can’t spare any time for workshops and public lectures). You can lie in your bed drinking coffee and still getting that self education you need by watching a webinar. Sounds great, right? Almost makes you think about forgetting any options that make you leave home. Remember that you still have to socialize, though!
Self education can be not as hard as you imagine and it can definitely be a lot of fun. After all, you are the one who chooses what to learn, where to learn and when to learn. Good luck!
